Waiting for publication…
The first review is out of Glixman, and now people are contacting me because they want to buy a copy. But it’s not ready yet, at least in the States, and I don’t even have copies yet, myself. I’m trying to remind myself that this is just a temporary issue, that (G-d willing) my book will be in stores and accessible via Amazon, etc., soon.
In the meantime, I’ve got plenty to do. Passover is coming up, and there’s still cleaning, shopping, cooking to do. I’ve got editing to do. And I’ve got more stories to record on Soundcloud!

Glixman in a Fix on Approach: Got the Cover for My Next Book & Checked the Proofs
Yesterday, I turned in my comments on the proof for my next book, the novelization of Glixman in a Fix. It’s weird reading something I wrote a couple years ago, already. I think the manuscript is in pretty good shape. We’re IY”H expecting the book to hit stores just before Pesach.
The good news is that I made myself laugh more than once, and I still find the characters charming after all this time. When I read the last page, I contemplated writing a sequel just so I could hang out a little longer with Mendel, Ari, Ilan, and Yehudis.
The bad news is that friends and colleagues are now telling me how they all want to buy my book. This leads to a potentially awkward conversation.
Some of the aforementioned friends and colleagues primarily have read my adult work. They read my essays in Tablet, my fiction in Inyan. I think that many of them expect me to sound the same in this book…but since the initial audience was so different, I sound very different in Glixman. I’m kinda afraid how they will react to it.
Readers out there, have you read something from a favorite author that just didn’t strike your fancy?
And writers, have you written something and then felt the desire to warn your usual readers away from it?
I have been swallowed whole.
Okay, really, I’ve been swallowed in pieces. Work is swallowing part of me, and my kids (all home for the summer) are swallowing the rest. There apparently isn’t much left for blogging.
One little bit of nifty news is that I started occasionally guest posting for Jew in the City. My first two posts went up last week and the week before. You can find the first one, “When The ‘Less Religious’ Woman Was Frummer Than Me,” here; and the second one, “A Kiddush Hashem In A Most Unexpected Place,” there.
Between swim lessons and jaunts to local museums, I have editing and writing to do. Thank G-d, have four writing assignments to squeeze in the next few weeks. Between this, that, and the other, I’ll probably be blogging infrequently throughout the summer, but hopefully I’ll be back in good form in the fall.
In a hurry, but must share the following exciting news!!
So, I’ve got a half-hour to carpool and a ton on my plate, but it occurs to me that I haven’t shared several recent developments in my professional life that are kinda exciting. In no particular order:
- It’s official. I am copyediting The Jewish Home – L.A. I began the gig a couple months back, but it was a test drive. Apparently, we all found the ride comfortable and think the vehicle can handle both surface streets and freeways. 😉
- Here’s a link to one of my stories from Passover. It’s the one in The Jewish Press/Olam Yehudi, called “Mom’s Request.” It starts on the bottom of the right-hand page.
- About two or three months ago , I was interviewed for an article by Simi Horwitz. It’s about women who write and/or edit at Hareidi publications. Simi interviewed several notables, too, like Libi Astaire, Rechy Frankfurter, and Baila Olisdort. The article appeared in The Forward yesterday. Here’s the link to that.

Have you picked up the Sukkos edition of Binah Magazine yet?
Even if you aren’t usually a Binah reader, you might want to take a look-see at the special, expanded Sukkos 5776 issue. The “Vistas” story supplement features a story by yours truly. It’s my first adult fiction appearance with Binah, so I’m very excited.
“From the Furthest Reaches of Heaven” originated as part of a sci-fi novel I’ve been working on for many years. (It gets mentioned every now and again on this blog.) Eventually, I decided that this particular part of that story had more power in an abbreviated format. Shortening it to a 3500 word count was a challenge, but I’m already getting positive feedback on the story, so I’m pleased with the results.
